Who We Are

Lismore and District Financial Counselling Service Inc. (LDFCS) is a not-for-profit, incorporated community organisation formed in 1990 and incorporated on 12th June 2002 to provide financial counselling to people in Lismore and the Northern Rivers to alleviate poverty.

LDFCS is an organisation governed by a volunteer Management Committee. Our funding comes from the Commonwealth Financial Counselling Program and the NSW Credit Counselling Program. We do not accept funds from Credit providers.

LDFCS operates as a financial counselling service to support and empower client’s to take control of their finances and alleviate their poverty.

Our Purpose

The Lismore and District Financial Counselling Service provides high quality, professional, accredited, free and confidential financial counselling, both by face-to-face interviews and telephone counselling for people throughout the Far North Coast (NSW) who are experiencing financial difficulties.

It provides this to alleviate poverty, reduce stress and mental health issues and help clients take control of their own financial affairs.

It provides this through direct casework, individual advocacy and negotiation, referral, community education and development and liaison with other financial management and community services.

Our goals

Over the life of this Plan, three goals will guide our strategic direction:

1. LDFCS will maintain and enhance its provision of professional accredited confidential no-cost financial counselling services to the communities of the region to alleviate poverty.

2. LDFCS will plan sustainable growth to respond to emerging communities and organisational need.

3. LDFCS organisational foundation meets governance responsibilities, enhances effective service delivery and provides responsive staff support.
